小慢 Xiaoman (台北市泰順街16巷39號, Tel: 02 2365 0017) - It immediately became my favourite teahouse in Taipei after only one tea session, perhaps even in the whole world. One of the most beautiful places in Taipei, and so close to where I live! (See more photos & Facebook page...)

爾雅書馨一庭之廣生食品行 (台北市泰順街38巷25號, Tel:02 2363 3414) - Reminiscent of the nostalgic old Shanghai, visiting this teahouse is always on our to-do list whenever David and I come to Taipei. The owner used to have a fascinating and gorgeous antique shop nearby, where we discovered loads of treasures, but it seems to have closed down. This in reference to the "Hands"post. It brought to my mind's eye the scene in Martin Scorsese's adaptation of Edith Wharton's "Age of Innocence" when the grandmother tells Newland and May that a marble likeness of her hands was sculpted by a famous artist in Paris and then later we see May's hands sculpted out of marble, resting on the table. What a lovely notion...

Wow, great analogy, Angelina! Sure would like to visit there one day....

Always love your comments Angelina! You know... Scorsese's rendition of "The Age of Innocence" is one of my all-time favourite films. So much so that I wanted to based everything on May's wedding when I was planning my own wedding - lily of the valley bridal bouquet, antique lace and gown (didn't manage to get a Victorian one but found an Edwardian dress, which is my favourite period in fashion), plus being in an extremely OLD place, the Temple Church... Ah I sure got a bit carried away here in this comment! :))

FYI-Should you be in Geneva the weekend of 18 September, Butterfly Lovers, Opéra Yue Chinois will be performed in one of the city's most exciting venues, Bâtiment des Forces Motrices. It will be performed by the ensemble Xiaobaihua of the Zhejiang province.

Thank you for this information Angelina! I was going to see "Dream of the Red Chamber" - a Yue opera 'in concert' (only singing, no theatre) a few days after I saw the incredible Kunqu "Peach Blossom Fan" at Esplanade Singapore, but something came up and I wasn't able to attend.

I'd love to see Butterfly Lovers (it was just Chinese Valentine's a few days ago, on my parents' wedding anniversary this year!), but will be in Bhutan at that time (very exciting too!). Please let me know what you think of it if you attend the performance. :)

Best wishes,
Ting-Jen

Will do. My husband and I are going to see "The Barber of Seville" the week before at the Grand Théatre, so it will be from Opera buffa to Opera Yue. So much beauty, so little time...

I wish you safe and enjoyable travels to Bhutan.

A side note: my wedding took place on a rainy day in May. I carried pale pink roses as my bridal bouquet, we had pink peonies flanking the alter and our wedding cake had marzipan flowers and petals.
